Bird Republic is a duo of nature aficionados, art enthusiasts, and wildlife photographers showcasing the splendour of the natural world through art decor pieces, clothing line and various other items.
Our primary focus involves curating, enhancing and printing stunning yet budget-friendly vintage art collections, clothing, and accessories, all locally hatched in Cape Town.
Background:
What started in 2016 as a passion project by a couple of spirited South African birders quickly hatched into a little hive of productivity whose goal was to share the beauty of the natural world by releasing nature-inspired creations to all those who share the same admiration for the living kingdom as we do.
We have been collecting, curating & meticulously restoring & enhancing our treasure trove of historic artworks over many years, with the aim of growing a successful local business that incorporates our love for travel and nature. We officially launched our own website in March 2023! We hope you love our offerings as much as we do!
What we currently offer:
High Quality Vintage Art Prints: Nature art from the past brought back to life in high definition and enhanced colours.
Ready to frame. Standard sizes: A5, A4, A3 on 200gsm textured watercolour paper (we will soon be offering up to A1, feature-sized prints for certain artworks, available for purchase on our website).
Eco-frame: Bamboo Magnetic Wall Art Hanging Frames (Made sustainably).
T-Shirts: Fun and unique graphic nature Tees, which are an intentional departure from the unexciting offerings found at most local retailers.
We are always striving to innovate by creating a greater range of nature-inspired wares – follow us on social media for all the latest hatchlings from our ever-active nest 🙂
Travel and Photography:
Before the Bird Republic ‘brand’ was even conceived, we were spending a great deal of time exploring our country’s diverse landscapes in search of the myriad bird species and other wildlife to be observed within our borders. We derive a great deal of inspiration for our product creations from our time spent pursuing our feathered friends, and in turn the proceeds from our business allow us to fund these excursions. Below is a small compilation of the photos we have taken and brought back from our travels.
Every once in a while, one is treated to a most exquisite sighting in the most unexpected setting.
This Half-collared Kingfisher provided us with much exhilaration when suddenly flitting into view whilst we enjoyed a quick snack in the Roodepoort area.

A rather nondescript and tricky fellow to identify when not in its full breeding regalia, this male Yellow Bishop was intent on making himself as conspicuous as possible amongst the luxuriant fynbos neighbouring the expansive forest of Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve.

A little taste of what`s to come, following a nice little getaway in Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve and surrounds...
We are in the process of sifting through the myriad photos taken during the course of our 3-day stay and are very keen to share some snaps of the birds we encountered!
